That's normal, and it's exactly why storm damage inspections happen up close, slope by slope, not from the driveway. Hail bruises the shingle mat and knocks granules loose without leaving an obvious hole, and wind gets under shingle edges and breaks seals that won't show as missing shingles right away. Both types of damage shorten the roof's life even when nothing looks visibly wrong. Insurance policies also limit how long after a storm you can file a claim, so getting an inspection soon after a storm matters even if the roof looks untouched.
Signs your roof took storm damage
Granules collecting at the downspouts
Hail knocks the protective granule layer loose, and it washes down into the gutters and out the downspouts. It's often the first visible clue even when the shingles themselves look intact.
Dents in soft metal
Vent covers, gutters, and AC fins dent easily under hail, and dents there are a good indicator that the roof took a comparable hit even if the shingles show it less clearly.
Creased or torn shingles after high wind
Wind gets under the leading edge of a shingle and either creases or tears it. A creased shingle will not reseal and leaks in the next rain even though it may still look mostly in place.
Impact marks or a puncture from debris
A falling limb can punch through shingles and underlayment and even crack the decking underneath, sometimes without an obvious hole visible from the ground.

How widespread the hits are
A few isolated hail hits on one slope is a different scope than bruising across the whole roof. We chalk and count hits per test square the way an adjuster does to make that determination.
Whether the decking was breached
Impact damage that goes through the shingles and underlayment into the decking needs structural repair, not just a shingle swap.
Age and condition of the existing roof
An older roof that takes storm damage on top of existing wear is more likely to need full replacement than a young roof with the same hail hits.
Collateral damage to gutters and siding
Storms that dent metal roofing accessories often affect gutters and siding at the same time, and those get documented in the same inspection.
What to expect during the visit
We inspect and photograph every slope of the roof along with the gutters, vents, and any soft metal, checking for both hail bruising and wind damage. If the damage looks storm-related and within your policy's coverage, we document it thoroughly and are prepared to meet your adjuster on site to make sure the claim reflects what's actually there. If we don't believe the damage will be covered, or it's a simple fix, we'll explain what we found and quote the repair directly, no pressure to file a claim either way.
